The entire Lomax family will be praying for God’s healing for Dieter and comfort and peace for Val and the Zander family. Only God can give the true peace and love is this time of concern. Praise to our Lord!
Dear Zander Family,
Dieter is on my mind, in my heart, and in my prayers all day long. I pray the healing power of the Holy Spirit to engulf Dieter and bring him back to health. I pray for comfort and strength for Val, the boys and the extended family. I thank God for Dieter and the impact he has had on so many people. Lord God thank you that you are with this family.
The Fulton Family is praying for you. We’re praying that each of you are experiencing the Lord in powerful and intimate ways. We’re praying that Lord is knitting Dieter, His creation, back to a healthy state. We wish we could be with you in person.
Our prayers will continue to be with you. Our Father, who has lead you for years, will not stop watching and caring for all of you, nor will all of us who have been immensely blessed through your ministries, stop interceding for you.
We are two of many people believing for the swelling to subside and health to be restored. We also are praying for peace for all your family. We care about you all!
Sincerely,
Suzanne and Gary Hanson

I will continue praying for Dieter and his family here in the Netherlands. My parents are praying for Dieter and his family too. You´re all in my thoughts all day long.
Love,
Martine
I have just heard this news through our friend LaDonna Witmer’s page. It has been years since I have even spoken with Dieter but his impact on my life is as strong as ever. You have my sincere prayers and expectations of God’s healing hand reaching down to lift you all up safely!
Seventeen years ago, God used Dieter to bring me to His feet, something for which I will always be thankful. I think this world needs Dieter in his full capacity to continue to immensely bless many around him. And considering that He says “as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” I pray to our good Lord that His perfect will be done in Peter & family.
My wife (Alex) and I heard the news of Dieter’s condition from Dusty & Susan Callow, down here in SoCal. We were stunned by the news, yet not without hope…because of the God that Dieter helped us both to know better. It is because of this hope that I refuse to write anything that sounds like a eulogy. However, we do have some memorable history with Dieter. Alex was one of the original Newsong people…dating back to the Upland days. I came along during the Cal Poly Pomona days. But more than that…Dieter befriended us, married us, and modeled for us how to live. Given this (“…how to live..”), here’s what I propose: Pray the following verses, out loud, as often as possible over these next hours and days. And when you get to the part in the verse where it says “I” or “my”…interject Dieter’s name. The spoken word is powerful, especially in moments like these. The verses are as follows: Psalms 30:2, 103:3, 107:20, 118:17, 147:3, Proverbs 4:20-22, Isa 58:8, Jerm. 17:14, 30:17, James 5:14-15, 1 Peter 2:24, and 3Jon 2. Thank you…

Zander family-Georgene and I, like everyone I suspect, were shocked to hear that this had happened to Dieter who I always considered such a healthy specimen…anyway, know that we are “praying without ceasing” for my buddy, and you all, and the entire medical team.
Dear Valerie,
Kirk and I join the many, many others who love Dieter and are keeping him before the Lord throughout each day. May God keep you strong, bless and keep all of you as you walk this journey. We are praying for complete recovery and healing. HE is able!!!
Love,
Georgene
Zanders-
We feel privileged to bring you all before the Throne of Grace. As friends of Monica & Erwin Zander and as parents ourselves, we feel especially close to you all at this time. Of course, we also fondly recall the times with Dieter and his early ministry at Mt. Park Church in the 1980s. He has left his mark on the lives of our children, Boomer and Sue, that is still evident nearly thirty years later.
Dear Val and Family:
Words fail me, but thanks be to God that He knows, loves and intercedes…and is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine. We are praying for you and Dieter and your boys in Kentucky.
Hello Val, I don’t know if you remember me, I met you and Dieter in your living room in Upland. It was the beginning of the New Song days, I met my wife of 18 years Aimee on your couch. Dieter used to call me Sharkey when we had the softball team, well Aimee and I have 4 daughters now the oldest is in college. We heard about what happened and our prayers our with you, we are part of a 24 prayer house in Rancho Cucamonga and we will for his complete healing daily. God has given us authority over all sickness not some but all and we will contend for full restoration. I look back now on those days with a certain fondness and on you guys with love and respect, I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Love, Rob and Aimee
Val, my heart and prayers are with you and the boys. I praise God with you that Dieter has opened his eyes. May God use all that you are going through to His glory. I pray that He continues to give you supernatural strength and peace, and that our Jehovah-rapha moves in and through Dieter to restore him to health.
To Val, Dieter et al: My reading for this morning was Psalm 41(NLT): “Oh the joys of those who are kind to the poor (that would be the Zanders, Lord)! The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble. The Lord protects them and keeps them alive…The Lord nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health.” Father, remember Your people, remember Your children, remember Your promises! We are praying at every remembrance of you all and appreciate all the updates. We remember so well Swede’s cancer and the miracles that occurred. Whatever God chooses, we can imagine Him speaking sweet words to Dieter and pray that He is repairing every tiny broken connection in his brain. And we pray that the rest of you, esp. Val and the boys, sense those same sweet words. We love you. Ron and Mary
Dear Val and boys,
We pray many times during each day for Dieter’s recovery and for your strength and knowledge of God’s love for all of you.
I’ve been in contact with Judy and Swede a couple of times. They love all of you so very much. Your dad spoke of how powerful Dieter’s worship leading was in Hungary. I admire you and your love and service for our Lord.
In His Felloship, Judy Dreyfuss Franklin
Kim and I have been checking this blog religiously to hear the updates on Dieter. Even when I was sick for short while, it was tough for Kim to keep up with all the requests for information. Please know that we’re praying for you and your family regardless of the updates. Although it feels like we are on the other side of the world living in England, you’re all still very close in our hearts.
Mark
Dear dear Zander family,
How I long for you to know that we are praying for you and wishing we could be closer. We are praying, grieving, questioning, crying, reminiscing and imploring. I awake in the middle of the night to pray for you.
Seth has recently begun to pray his own bedtime prayers. I asked him to pray for Dieter last week and he said, “Jesus, Thank you for Dieter. Thank you for his stroke.” I opened my mouth to correct him, but then stopped and decided (or was led) to allow Seth to have his own prayer in his own words. I am amazed that my 2-year-old could teach me something about being thankful in all circumstances. It is my hope that this prayer from Seth is a bit of hope that all will be well.
Thank you for your updates. You are on my heart at all times.
Dear Dieter and Val – Having served on staff with you at Mountain Park Church, Lake Oswego,OR, I was stunned by the news. But God is good and all of this is part of His plan. Dieter, as my dear friend, I will uphold you throughout the day each day for contiued healing. Val, for you I will pray for wisdom, strength and courage throughout each day. I wish I could be there praying over you!!!
Dear Val & family –
Like many others, words cannot express my sadness in hearing of Dieter’s stroke. I attended Newsong 1992-98 and was very blessed by the ministry of you & Dieter. My thoughts & prayers have been with you & your family since hearing the news.
One of my most immediate prayers was for Dieter to receive good medical care & for you & your family to be treated well by the medical staff. I am a speech therapist & have worked in stroke rehabilitation for many years – so I have seen the good & the bad that health care can provide. I know that you are having to make many, many decisions regarding Dieters’s care – so if my experience can be of any help to you – please feel free to contact me @ jili.hanggi@earthlink.net.
May you, Dieter & the rest of your family continue to have the peace that only our loving Father can provide.
My small group in Kansas City has added Deiter to our daily prayer list. I still have some messages of his recorded from Axis, and he has had such a profound impact on my life!
Val & Sons:
I’m so happy to hear that Dieter is no longer sedated and will be moving to a different hospital soon. This is an answer to many prayers. I will continue to pray for you and the doctors as you make decisions about what is best for Dieter.
In Him,
Scott
I praise God for the good news that Dieter is awake and recognizes all your beautiful faces! Eric and I are in constant prayer for you. I’m starting to understanding the idea of “prayer without ceasing” so much over the past week. David’s message on Sunday made it clear that God is in control and has His hand on Dieter’s life. I pray joy for you this day and for strength and wisdom as you have these big decisions to make. Know that you are covered in prayer!
Hi.
I just wanted you to know that I am thinking about you as you are going through this time of difficulty. I love you all lots and am hopeful that healing and goodness emerge with expedience.
Much peace to you,
Mary Nan Ollis
my high school friend, Renee, sent me an email about Dieter. I rejoice at the progress and look forward to seeing God’s continued healing and grace poured out upon each one of you. I remember Dieter from high school days (the 70s) when he played in the “Welcome Home” band with Craig, Curt and Wes. What fond memories.
I am listening to Dieter on Itunes right now. What a gifted man.
I am praying and am passing along requests for others to pray as well. Many do not know him, but we are all brothers and sisters in Christ.
We have never met, but I grew up with Dieter. My parents are part of the German gang. My mom is Johanna Orr. My heart goes out to you and your family. Please give Dieter a big hug and tell him to be strong. This web site is great to see the progress being made. I’m not there physically to help out, but I will have positive thoughts and hope for a speedy recovery. Hang in there!
All the Haughton girls and families are praying for you-such strong bonds that tie us together-we are hurting for you but confident in the Lord’s healing hands.
In our hearts and minds always,
Betty, Ann, Louisa, Jennie, Elizabeth (and families)
We have not stopped praying for Dieter and your precious family throughout our days, every day, since we heard. May the God of all comfort uphold you and sustain you. On Him we have set our hope, on our God who raises the dead (2 Cor.1:9,10).
We love you.
Dear Val,
My heart and my prayers are with you, Deiter, the boys, Deiters parents, and your parents, daily. The first time I saw Deiter he was playing the piano at Chaperral Hts. Church. I thought I had died and gone to Heaven I was so thrilled. After attending your wedding you both have had a special place in my heart. After hearing you speak at the Women’s Rretreat in the mountains for New Song about observing the Sabbath I was sure of it.
I believe God is in total control of His child Dieter and that there will be a total healing. Love, Dorothy
Two of my familias that live in California, the McCords and the Carrells informed me of Dieter’s hospitalization. I had the privilege of meeting Dieter on the occasion of being the sponsor of my son, Todd’s baptism and celebrating same for my daughter Christine in June, 2006. It became immediately apparent to me that Dieter is one of God’s disciples. I was impressed by his knowledge, wisdom and passion for spreading the Good News of our Lord’s love for us and his saving grace through Faith. Please know that prayers are being offered up in Texas for the complete recovery for Dieter and for the Zander family during this difficult time. I’ve called my church and Dieter and his family are on the prayer chain at Christ Church, Plano, Texas.
“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him.” Nahum 1:7
Sincerely,
Paula Casey
My heart sings with joy to hear that Dieter is starting the process of recovery. Congratulations, Dieter, on walking! You are such a fighter. Please know that you and your family are in my daily thoughts and prayers, and I won’t I stop praying until Dieter is fully healed.
Dear Val & Dieter, Kyle, Conrad, & Chris,
We join you through God’s gift of prayer. In all of the ups & downs of this unchosen journey, may you sense the unchanging presence of God- lifting, sustaining, giving hope, & a calmness that says: the great I AM is ever with you.
“For many a rapurous minstre among the sons of light,
Will say of his sweetest music, ‘I learned it in the night.
And many a rolling anthem that fills the Father’s home,
Sobbed out its first rehearsal in the shroud of a darkened room.”
We send our love from Hope Hill,
Joan & Rich Hornberger
Val, Our prayers have been daily for Dieter’s healing and recovery. We have also been praying for courage and strength for you and the boys. May God Bless all of you. MaryAnn and Dave Humphrey from NewSong.
Hey Zanders….
I too totally appreciate the updates on this website. I check it so many times throughout the day and night. You have been in my heart, on my mind and in my prayers . God used you in my life way back in the Upland School Cafeteria and continues to use you now for me and many others. Prayer is the most powerful thing and it is evidently working. I’m thankful for that! I love you Val and Dieter!
Love~

Just to let Val, Dieter and the boys know that we are still in prayer, and connected with you in spirit — for grace, mercy, healing, growth, and courage we pray. Allour love,
Ww check the site daily and are so happy to hear of the progress. We continue to send our love and prayers, and please know we are praying for everyone there and for continued progress for Dieter.May your courage and good health and wise decision making continue Val.You are a wonderful wife, mother, and woman of God.
Your faithful friends,
Bill and Nancy McGivney
Thanks for the updates, Val. I pray for Dieter several times during the day and have been praying lately that he won’t become discouraged. I keep thinking of the verse from Jeremiah that says something to the effect that “my plan is to help you and not to harm you; to give you a hope and a future.” It helps me realize that God will use this for good in Dieter’s life, your life, and the lives of all of us who love Dieter.
Dearest Val and family – Got the news of this messagge board from your dad on Sunday. Responded as I am now, but must be doing something wrong b/c I don’t see our message along w/the others, but will continue this in hopes you get it. Know we, and many of our friends, have been praying very specifically for your family. This all reminds me of years ago in McLean and the POWER of prayer – IThess.5:17. Such and honor to be praying for you guys. Even though we don’t see eachother, as we pray for your mom and dad, we too pray for the rest of the family. We love you and pray you are sensing His peace that passes all understanding. He is in control of all things and that too is a comfort. Give a hug to all of your family. That He would provide you with the rest you need, and His wisdom in all things. in His amazing grace, Ken and Bobbi Psalm 23
Hi Val and Dieter! I don’t know if you remember me, but my name is Tracy Broyles. I attended Axis at Willow Creek when you were there about 10 years ago (I can’t believe it has been that long). I now live in Salem, OR and work as a Physical Therapist Assistant at the hospital here. I just want you to know how much I appreciated your leadership and authenticity at Axis. You were, and still are, a great inspiration to many and have made a huge difference in many lives through Christ. I know how difficult this road is, but rest assured that you are being prayed for and thought of throughout this time. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for all you have done and continue to do! May God’s Grace Shine Upon You and Give you Peace…
Greetings from Poland. Dieter lead worship at Campus Crusade’s Area conference in Jan. I have been praying for Dieter but have no new news as this website hasn’t been updated since Feb 7th. Would someone please let us know how Dieter is doing? Thanks!
Karol
Val – I’m so encouraged by your recent reports. The Lord will bring you through this even though you are exhausted. I’ve wanted to phone you but know better. Just know that my prayers are with you, Dieter and the boys. Wish I could be there to help mow the lawn!!
Greetings Val, Dieter, and young men Zander.
I cannot imagine how hard this is for you. My heart has been heavy ever since I heard, Dieter, of your stroke through the tremendous Living Grape Vine from which we all draw our lives. Yet I am greatly encouraged by the reports of progress from you Val. Thanks for taking the time to write them. I wish I could do more than pray; yet I know I probably cannot do more than my prayers will. We all know that You Dieter are one of the great men of our generation, and that is why we all are praying for a complete recovery for you. You have a lot more music in you. And this world needs it. So be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.
Hoping i am that our paths will cross again somewhere on this side. Wiedersehen.
Tad Martin
Martin & I send much love and prayer. I can’t wait to tell you in person how much we miss you and just how much you have changed our lives. It’s crazy that we don’t say these things on a more regular basis…I guess we have learned something here. God bless you, Val and your boys.
Continue to pray daily for your needs, Val and Dieter , boys and family. thanks so much for the updates Val. God did not give the Zanders the spirit of fear, but power and of love and of sound mind.He will complete his good works in all of you.
I carry this prayer of St. Theresa in my wallet. Want to share with you.
“May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received , and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content knowing you are a child of God…Let His presence settle into your bones and allow your soul the freedom to praise and love. He is there for you in every test and trial you encounter.”
Much Love and continuous prayer support,
Nancy McGivney
Wally Beecroft has been keeping me updated on Dieter’s condition. I just discovered this response place and wanted to let you know that Scott Evans, Ned Mervich and I are praying for you guys.
Wanted to let you know how shocked we were to hear the news and that we have our whole House Church network here in Portland OR praying for your speedy and complete recovery!! Yeah God, He is the Healer!
The Patterson Family in Sherwood Oregon is praying for a speedy and full recovery. Val we will pray specifically for God to give you peace and the children comfort. For Dieter we pray for a restoration of his health so he can continue to minister to others in only the way Dieter can. God Bless you all. Jim, Valorie, Melissa, Katie and Josh
Thank you for your strength, character, and perseverance, Thanks, too, for allowing us to share your journey with you via the Internet updates. Each day I look forward to the latest news to enhance my prayers for you. From the moment I heard about the stroke, I have been deeply burdened for all of you.
As I have said before, Dieter is one of the most influential people in my life, from his presentation on Focus on the Family years ago that breathed a vision to start Frontline Church, Ann Arbor into my heart (which continues nearly ten years later) to our four years together in Chicagoland that I treasure to this day.
Val, hearing you in Omaha several years ago made an impact on me as well.
Anyhow, I just want to say that prayers are being sent from Ann Arbor, Michigan. You are all deeply loved and appreciated.
I have heard the cry of your heart and am lifting it up to our Heavenly Father. Please know that you, Dieter, and the boys are never far from my thoughts and prayers. May He fill you with supernatural wisdom, courage, and strength.
It was thru Newsong Church, which Dieter and yourself founded and led for I believe 12 years, that we came to know the value of praying with “contagious authentic christians” by becoming part of a Care Group within the Church. This led to what is now a 16 year intimate friendship with your parents, Judy and Swede Anderson. We have gained so many blessings thru both our Care Group relationships and thru the sheparding and leadership that Dieter provided as Lead Pastor and great friend to my wife, Cathy and myself. I am thrilled – along with thousands of others – of the great progress Dieter has made with God’s grace. Our prayers will continue to ask Christ to provide you and the boys with the blessings he already has in store for you.
Love, Tim and Cathy O’Neil
You are in our prayers many times each day. Thank you for updating the blog regularly so we can pray specifically for your needs.
During Doug’s health crisis in 2007, many people gave us verses to encourage us. Below is one of those verses that we held close to your hearts and minds. “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” We are praying this for you!!!
Hi Val, We are friends of Judy and Swede. We are in prayer for each of you and for Dieter’s stability and physical strength at this time. We pray for God’s healing touch and that you and the family will experience God’s strong presence in your midst. Jim and Sonya Sprout
It is hard to believe that you take time every day to write something on the website. Thank you for this gift for all of us who are praying.
We are praying for strength for all of you as you walk down this road of physical and emotional suffering together. Consider us part of your fmaily of prayer.
We are joining our prayers to yours in this battle and feel blessed to be able to do so. You are an incredible couple and have blessed our family–we are grateful. Tom & Crystal Hagen, Sequim, WA (formally Alaska).
Hello Zanders….
I know Dieter’s birthday is coming up on the 28th of February. I think of him every year! This year will be a little different for you all, but I wanted to acknowledge his birthday. I do wish you the best and we are praying (Joe & I and the girls) for your family and Dieter’s healing! We love you!! Your family means so much to us!

New Song…an original : )
Happy Birthday Dieter! Thanks be to God you are here to have another one. The ups and downs during a time like this are so trying. Val, you have such strength (I know it is God given) The daily living at the hospital is tiring and difficult when things don’t go well, but so uplifting when a tiny miracle happens. I know your family has a strong faith, but please remember that the Lord can bring Dieter back from any situation. Bible verse proves this. I have seen His glory work in my nephew who was on life support and made a full recovery. Please continue to hold steadfast and strong or when you can’t be strong, just let go and let God be your strength. Kyle, Conrad and Christopher, please know that your family is so loved and that prayer is going out continuously for Dieter’s full recovery and for great decision making power for Val. Make God’s peace and love envelope all of you during this most difficult time. We love you. Bob and Margo
Dear Val & sons,
Greetings from Poznan, Poland. We work with CCC and Dieter & Conrad were at our staff conference in January in Hungary.
We have been praying for Dieter & your family.
Thanks for the updates!
May God do miracles!
Poznan, Poland CCC team
You continue to be in my prayers, as well as those of my family, numerous people here at The Crossing Christian Church in Las Vegas, and others who know of the ways that God has used you to impact my life. May you and your family find strength, courage and hope as you rely on Him daily for all your needs.
Val
I was so touched by your update from yesteday, and so appreciative of your sharing your heart, allowing us to pray specifically for your needs. As I prayed for you and Dieter and your family, the following affirmation came to mind. It is simple, yet has proved profound in my life. I hope it will be helpful as the days of recovery continue.
God knows me,
God loves me,
God knows my situation,
God cares about my situation
God is active in my situation.
The Richartz family(Kim and Joel) have fond memories of the Zander family. Dieter was of great comfort to the family when our Meghan passed away. We hope that we can be of support to the Zander family by praying every day for Dieter’s recovery.
Whatever did we do before the internet? I hope it is comforting to know that people all over the country – and world – are praying for you and genuinely concerned for your welfare!!
For what it’s worth, I have a very dear friend who had a stroke in his early 40s, almost 10 years ago. He is active today and doing fine…so please know that there is hope!
As they say, “life is what happens while you are busy making other plans….” This too is part of your journey, so don’t forget to savor each moment, whether easy or hard, and remember that God is in each of those details too, and not just the outcome.
This may be more helpful down the road than right now, but I suspect Dieter will be (or is) on some regimen of Coumadin (Warfarin), which I understand is something of a tricky drug to regulate, due to its interaction with certain foods. There is a cookbook published called (quite straightforwardly) “The Coumadin Cookbook” and it might be helpful to you in balancing vitamin K intake with the meds. I’m sure your doctors have all sorts of advice in that area too, but I thought I’d let you know it’s out there.
Hang in there…you’ve got a strong “safety net” in your friends, family and the One who created you!
Blessings,
Chris D
(used to play keyboards at Axis w/ Dieter, many moons ago)
You are so articulate. Your heart rending messages are informative and are so helpful in guiding my prayer for you all.
You are loved by so many and that includes me.
To the Zander Family:
What a roller coaster ride you all have been on recently! Thank you Val, for keeping us updated. I try to check in once or twice a week. I sent a comment on 2/16 to let you know that my church located in Plano, Texas is praying for you all. (I am Christine McCord and Todd Carrell’s mom). My church is still praying and there are some mighty prayer warriors on our prayer team. Subsequently, I have added your name on the prayer list at my Women’s Bible Study group. Since February 16, it appears those prayers are being heard as progress seems to be positive, slow but positive. When times are difficult, it seems so much safer or easier for us to hold onto control than to trust the Lord of all things and circumstances. We are called to walk in faith every day of our lives. My prayer today for your family is “Help us trust your word and to remember your faithfulness in the lives of your people throughout scripture, in the history of your church and in our own lives. We thank you for the gift of hope and the fulfilled promise of your presence with us. Amen”
Stuart and I have been praying for you and following your progress. Thank you for your postings. It helps us to pray for specific needs.
We are grateful for the opportunity to have spent time with your family and hope to have the opportunity to take you and the boys on another trip to the beautiful Exuma islands once Diedre is back on his feet.
Lots of love,
Stuart and Michelle Cove Nassau, Bahamas
Dieter – you’ve been in my constant prayers for weeks now. I’m encouraged to hear of forward progress and I know that you are in capable and loving hands with Val making sound decisions. It’s great to see how well you are all being supported.
You’ve been a great teacher and encourager for me and I know that I wouldn’t be in my current ministry without your influence. It always seems that you’ve called on me to sing when I’ve been in a place of discouragement and needed to be reminded of God’s grace. Thanks for that.
I’m continuing to pray for you and your family and for Bay Marin as they walk with you on this journey.
We kneel with you before God, asking for his divine and complete healing! None of us have the right answers, but we do know that God is in complete control. You have blessed and inspired so many lives..and will continue to do so, as Dieter will be completely healed,in the holy name of Jesus, Amen. Our prayers are with you, Your friends in cold Sweden
As I read your last three posting, I found myself weeping. To hold all those feelings and paradoxes together is so huge, so difficult, and so deepening. Gratitude for life and recovery and sadness over the loss. Desire for connection and needing to hold an interior space in order to rest and re-orient and integrate. Etc. I think that God holds paradoxes in his very nature, and I wonder if this is one of the things we have to learn in our brief lives here. Our experiences are gifts, often difficult gifts. As I pray for you today, I weep. I wish it all would suddenly become easier, and yet…. So, I hold that particular paradox in myself today.
I’m so glad that the normalcy of celebrating birthdays is happening. Happy birthday, belatedly, to each of you!
Know that I continue to hold you and your sons in my heart.
I am encouraged by the news that Dieter will be moving back home. As this transition takes place I will continue to pray for strength, patience, and hope for your family. Dieter, I am so grateful for your influence on my life. I pray that God would protect and bless your family.
Dear Val,
Thanks for taking your precious time to guide our prayers for you, Dieter and the boys, and family.
Praise God that Dieter can be in a place in loves with those he loves most-HOME!
We will continue to pray, and with special love for you dear Val, as so much of Dieter’s recovery depends on your diligence in advocating for him. Not an easy task, but one you are up to being as intelligent and courageous as you are.
We are praying daily and will continue to do so.
Much Love in Him,
Nancy and Bill McGivney
Dear Val and Dieter and boys, Kyle, Conrad, Christopher,
It was with great sadness that I heard from the Bergquists of Dieter’s recent stroke. Today, I called for an update and Mr. Bergquist directed me to your blog. It seems wonderful recovery is in progress. I hope the positive signs of return to health and full use of his limbs continues. You have all been in our prayers here at Star of the Sea and we will continue to pray for you each day as you face the ups and downs of the days ahead. Your faith and fortitude is an inspiration.
I hope school/college is going well with the boys. You left us with many happy memories of chili/square dancing and your help on the 8th grade retreat will always be remembered fondly.
May God bless all five of you, and may you be aware of His support every step of every day.
Love and prayers,
Maureen Lundy

My husband and I are neighbors & friends of the Zanders. I had sent an email to the person listed as the care coordinator for your church because I offered to do dinner for the Zander family on Firday 3/7 however I never heard back from anyone to confirm & I don’t see our name on the list.
I will plan to provide dinner for them unless I hear otherwise. Please feel free to call me at work @(415) 209-6640 or (415) 898-3705 @ home.
We’re so happy to hear that he is going home today!
We continue to pray for you. Last night I went to a Rivers of Life missionary service and healing service- we prayed for Gods healing and restoration of your life and family and ministry! Through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior-may you be healed. We love and we always be thinking and praying for you!
We are so so happy that you get to be home finally with your family. We continue to keep you in our prayers every night. Val you are an inspiration the way that you write and are keeping the world informed…what a blessing you are to your family.
Laura Kamptner
We continue to pray for Dieter and the family. We remember with such joy the camping trip to Timothy Lake in Oregon where Dieter joined us with his accordion and sang so lovely, that we had half the campground wanting to join in. We pray that his voice will be found again.
Prayers, from hans and Betty(good friends of Herbert Markwart
Dear Val,
I was on CCC staff under your wonderful parents many years ago. I use to baby sit for you sometimes and comb your lovely blond hair when you were a tiny girl. I am so sorry you and Dieter are going through such difficulty. My husband (Ron) and I are praying for you, Dieter and the boys. The Lord is gracious and loving and so aware of all of you. Camlla Wilkins
I knew Dieter back in the 70″s at Mountain Park Church where he was the worship director. He was and continues to be an inspiration. Our prayers are for him and his family.
Dieter and Val, I just read the prayer request for you on the Campus Crusade Staff Women’s site. Val, we lived on the same dorm floor at CSU years ago when we joined staff. My husband and I are serving with CCC in France, living just across the border from Geneva Switzerland. Please know that we will be praying for Dieter’s recovery and for you and the boys, that God would heal Dieter, that God would meet all of your needs and as you lean on Him, you will feel His arms of love and strength around you and holding you up. I’ll also add this to our prayer chain at our church. In His love, Susan (Conner) Goff
Linda and I have been praying for you ever since receiving Swede and Judy’s March 1 letter written from Novato. We will continue to call on the Lord for your complete recovery, Dieter. Your situation is on our hearts because of my great admiration and love for Swede and Judy.
We look forward to hearing of your progress, which I hope will assume a rapid pace.
With warmest regards and prayer,
Jon and Linda Montgomery Buell
Just checked in to see how things are going. I will email my Telecare minister, Parish minister, my Women’s Small Group, my Bible Study group, and the prayer team at my church to continue praying for Dieter. I am petitioning them to pray for strength in Dieter’s hand and great progress in his speech. I will ask them to pray for the physicians and therapists that are working together for the most complete recovery possible. I also always ask them to pray for guidance and strength for the family and all those that love and nourish Dieter. We are praying specifically for strength and courage for Val. We thank you for keeping us informed. You are doing such a fantastic job.
We ask these things in the precious name of the “Risen” Jesus

Dieter, I think of you often and our family prays for you and your family daily. Thank you for the updates and the specific prayer requests. I hope you are enjoying the peace of nature this time of year, I often think of how you remind us at church to be aware of this beautiful place we live in. I see the hills and am so glad you are in them. I hope your getting to really connect into it some. I will pray for you all to know when to push and when to rest.
It was so good to see you last night! When we first heard about your stroke we imagined the likely scenarios– so it is so good to see that you have such great mobility and the full capacity of your mind. I can imagine it is quite frustrating trying to communicate– but you are doing such a good job so early in the process of recovery! And you have such a good sense of humor about the whole thing– I know that because you have the will to communicate– you will and are finding ways to express what is in your mind and heart– despite the right brain/left brain craziness.
I’m so glad you all took the time to venture out to visit your SF friends– it meant a lot to all of us.
I’m praying that as time goes on, you both discover a new and wonderful normal together– that is full of surprising happiness and meaning. For now, I pray for healing and deep rest for both of you and the boys.
You both have offered so many people so much. I’m impressed that almost wherever I go and with whomever I meet someone mentions the impact that the two of you have had on their life. I hope that at this time you feel the freedom to receive some of that love and care back from the host of people around the globe who love you.
It was so good to hear Val’s voice the other day on the phone. I just wanted to let you know that we love you- and we are praying for you. I don’t know the answers and I don’t know why? All I know is that He cares for us and loves us enough that He sent His own Son to die for us-so we can be with Him someday in Heaven! That’s an awesome God we serve!
A heart felt ‘Thank you’ for keeping all of us informed on Deiter’s progress.
Everything is possible through God. After we arrive on the other side of our trials, we stand more firmly in our faith.
The realization that God really does hear our cries, and guides us through. When looking back at specific tougher times, they were better experiences, because HE IS with us.
Good Morning Deiter & Val, You are prayed for daily in our home. We pray with love and gratitude for the love and counsel you brought to our family. We pray knowing that nothing is ever wasted in our lives and our God is a BIG God. Just needed to let you know that we are among the many who love you and who have been touched by Jesus through you. We so appreciate that you keep us all informed about your daily walk and struggles. It helps us know how to pray. Blessings, Tom & Crystal Hagen
I know I’m not known well by Dieter or his family any longer, however, I feel that there is an important point that I need to share. Had it not been for Dieter, Neil Lomax, the Reiffs, and Roger Long, and their willingness to hold fast to the salvation that God so graciously and tirelessly pursued them with – I would have missed the opportunity of my lifetime – the opportunity of my eternal – very personal – one-to-one relationship with our creator. Dieter, along with the others, were a constant example of God’s grace and kindness and I wish to express my eternal grattitude to them for that.
At the time I knew him, Dieter was an amazing worship leader, gifted, surrendered, and a risk-taker who was able, by the power of the Holy Spirit, lead us into a Romans 12:1 style of worship where we were able to present our bodies a holy, living, sacrifice. This I encourage Dieter with:
Romans 12:1-2: “THEREFORE I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Because of your acceptance of Christ’s sacrifice, ressurection and life you are now known by God:
Isaiah 49:16 “Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.”
And by knowing God – you are His sweet aroma
2 Corinthians 2:14 “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.”
Such as you were and continue to be Dieter. Thank You and may God bless you and your family…..
Paul Dixon, his family (Katrina, Rachel, Andrew, & Josh), and Simi Valley Presbyterian Church (aka., Simi Prez) – We will all lift you in prayers to our God.
Val and Dieter,
As one of those who knew you during your childhood days in Philly, Val, my heart goes out to you. And Dieter, though we don’t know each other, as a fellow musician and as one who saw your incredible musical gifts while attending a Willow conference, I can not comprehend your loss. I can only pray that the intensity of your worship of our awesome Lord continues now in your heart and mind as it did then through your verbal leadership and your hands. My wife Lynn and I have been praying for you two and the boys ever since we received your parents’ letter, Val. Count on our prayers for the Lord to sustain you all, heal Dieter, and guide your every decision and activity.
In Him, Dave & Lynn Hine
It’s been a very long time since I have spoken to either of you, the time has flown and my life moved on as I picked up the pieces… as always, God has been extremely faithful and good to me. I just heard about what occurred in February and caught up with this blog and your progress (thanks to Jeff Johnson).
Dieter, we go back to grade school, through the college years and Mt. Park Church and shared truly wonderful times growing up and growing to know what it meant to have Christ in our lives. Just the thought of you brings a smile and warmth to my heart…your heart, talent, integrity and sheer intense energy and commitment to be involved with ministry have always made you unique and lovable.
I can barely comprehend the change and challenge this event brought to you and your family. I know God has his grand design and that you and your family will likely grow in ways you may never have anticipated (or desired) but it will certainly create something more precious and beautiful in your faith.
You have my prayer commitment for God’s will to be done and for a certain recovery and loving support for your family.
Blessings to you my friend,
Teri
PS – I hear Val and Conrad are visiting SPU this weekend- my son, Ian, is a junior there. If any of you would like to spend some time speaking to him his cell phone is 503-484-7037. Also, my cell is 503-484-7036.
Lyn and I continue to pray for you all, especially for Dieter’s full recovery.
I don’t know if the video I’m recommending for your review will be considered an encouragement or off-putting. However, I have prayerfully chosen to send you the source info.
There is an 18-minute talk by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor who is a PhD. neuroanatomist whose research has focused on the brain. In 1999, when Dr. Bolte was 37 she awakened one morning to discover she was having a massive stroke. Her secular talk is about what happened thereafter. I found her report to be a testimony to the human spirit and clear evidence of how we are fearfully and wondrously made by God.
If you have interest in seeing this talk, Google “TED” which stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design. Currently on the TED home page is photo of Dr. Taylor (holding a brain). Her poorly titled talk is “How the Brain Works.” There is no charge for the video which, again, runs 18 minutes.
We continue to pray for you and to expect great things from the great God who loves us and will never forsake us!
We pray God lay His hand on your human instrument (and your body for that matter) just as He did when He first formed you.
I was particularly touched when you wrote that you’re working on saying the names of your family. What a reminder for the rest of us; how we take names and how we call out to loved ones for granted sometimes. I know your family hears it before it’s even formed on your lips. And of course, your Father perceives your thoughts even before that.
Even in your recovery, God’s providence is written all over. We’re praying He will continue to invade your coming and going, your pt, your ups and downs.
We’ve been so privileged to share our lives with you when we first came to SF. I have simple, but fond memories of you cranking up some old school Stevie Wonder, and just standing back and enjoying. IT was like enjoying fine wine.
Be blessed, Dieter, Val, and family. Cathy and I are prayerful for you.
It was great to get your message on the website and to hear that you are making progress in therapy. I pray that there will be a day soon when those words will simply roll off your tongue.
Glad to see your posts and to know that you are really doing so well–all considered. We’ve been praying for you all along and getting updates from Patti T.
Please keep our friends, Dr. Phil & Joyce Calanchini, in your prayers as they face a most aggressive brain tumor. Phil, a retired neurologist, knew almost immediately what his seizures and resulting diagnosis would mean for him, his wife and family. It’s also hard on his wide circle of friends and faithful prayer warriors. Barring a miracle, for which we are all praying, he has 3-6 months.
We sure have seen some great praying due to yours and Phil’s health issues. Sure that will make a great difference for many others as well.
Bill and I send our love. We pray Dieter would continue to improve and that the Spirit of God would give wisdom in every decision you make. We are holding you up before the throne of grace.
Dearest Dieter and Val and boys
Although we haven’t seen you guys for years – in fact, haven’t seen your 3 guys – we have prayed for your whole family for years – your mom and dad can attest to that. Just know we love you and have many praying for you too. Always get caught up w/your family from your folks. We place your family at the feet of our Lord – God is good – God is ALWAYS good. Psalm 23 still remains a favorite. in His amazing grace, Ken/Bobbi
I haven’t read many of the posts on this blog before. Tonight I saw the first post back in February and then saw the photo of you running today.
Simply amazing how God does what He does! I don’t want to make light of how hard it has been for you, Val and the boys, nor minimize the work that probably lies ahead.
But I do remember the images that were related to us when you were in hospital and now see a photo of you running up Mt. Burdell.
Although we might not see it clearly sometimes, God is forever at work – and it is good!
Dieter and family,
I just heard about what has happened through Neil Lomax. You all are in my prayers. Many found memories of you Dieter. (Marcia Badgley)
I wanted to let you know that it has been VERY good seeing both at church the past few Sundays. It’s amazing to see how much God has done in these past several months and to see how much healing He has already brought. Val, thank you for sharing your story this past Sunday. It’s clear that there is still time before chapter 50 arrives, but keep holding on to Him and the vision He gave you to draw nearer and nearer to Him. Praising God through the storms of life proves to be both painful and joyous and I pray that through both of these that you feel His presence with you all the more.
Hey Dieter and Val, I just flew back from Phoenix tonight. I was working with some church planters there and one of them who read my book asked if you were the “guy in my story.” Not sure if you know that I referenced my relationship with you and how our walk in San Fran with the boys had a huge impact on how I see life and ministry. It just made me think again of your struggle. As soon as I came home I got back on the web to see if there were any new updates. I was so happy to see the picture of you running beside the beautiful green hillside. I’m sure you weren’t running fast, you were slow as hell even when everything worked!! Just kidding. Anyway, your pictures simply reminded me of how much I love you and Val and the boys. Next time I get anywhere near San Fran, I’m coming for ya!
Hugh
Hey guys! Still thinking and praying for you all! We will be in the Bay area this weekend doing some Nike camps. Love you guys and we’ll let everyone know how God is doing great things in your lives through this difficult time. Stuart Gaussion’s memorial service is May 22 at Mt Park Church. Love you Dieter! Neil and fam!
Hello Dieter, you may not remember me. I served in the band (Trombone player) at Willow Creek while you were there and played on the “To Know You More” CD with you and the team. Please know that you and your family are in our prayers. Be encouraged for we serve a Mighty God. He knows your name and wants the very best for you and your family! Stay in His Grip… Watch the Mighty Hand of our Lord work this out for you.
You matter to Him and all of us! Love in Christ, Roscoe and Revita DeChalus.
Dieter & Val,
So many years have passed since we were together at ISOT but the imprint that you both made on our hearts is still very tangible. The incredible worship times, Dieter’s questions about married life, watching you 2 date, fall in love and marry, hours together in class/library/by the pool, ministry, are very special memories. Please know that we love you, are praying for you and will do all that we can to support you. —KT LT PS. Aimee just grad from college this May and will marry in Jan09!
Just heard from mutual friends of the great hill you are climbing. Susan and I will be praying for your entire family as you all navigate this “severe mercy.” You have all meant so much to so many and reading through some of the website the community that has been loved and nurtured by your life of love is given entree to respond in kind.
Dieter and Val,
We just heard from Linda Ware that you had had a stroke in February. We were, of course, shocked that such a young man would be stricken down. Then I remembered that we knew you when you were in your early thirties at New Song Church in Covina, CA and we were in our late forties. Time does fly, doesn’t it!
According to your blog and the many comments, it seems to have been quite the journey back toward health. God has made the body to repair itself amazingly and with your tenacity and love of life, family and serving God you have all the ingredients for making a wonderful recovery.
May God bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon and give you much grace. We will be joining the many people who your life has influenced in prayer for your complete restoration.
In His Love,
Jim and Lorna Wainscott

Good Morning Dieter and Val,
We have been following your story from day 1 when we received a phone call with the news. You have been on our daily prayer list ever since. I knew how overwhelmed you would be with people trying to contact you so we decided to wait until things settled down somewhat. We have kept current with your progress and we see God working everyday in your life. We have missed you all very much since you left NewSong. Our prayer is to be able to see you all sometime in the near future. We are planning a trip to San Francisco and would love to be able to stop in and see the Zander family. Please let us know if that might be possible. Continue to get well and we will keep you in our prayers. May God bless you every moment of every day!
We Love you all very much!

Hi Dieter,
I was just talking to John and Jan Reiff at church this morning, and they said you had a website, so here I am. We heard about what happened a couple months ago, but I had no idea what you have gone through. You are such a fighter, so full of strength. I have such great memories of you and all the great times we had at Mt. Park. I’ve always admired your musical gift, you are the most awesome pianist I’ve ever know, well, ok, besides Billy Joel, but I guess I don’t actually know him. I remember watching Amy Grant’s concert at the Keller Auditorium when you were her pianist. That was the best! Seeing how many letters people have written to you just shows the impact you’ve had on so many people throughout your life. You are great, Dieter, and so strong, because your strength comes in your weakness. When you are weak, God is strong.
Our prayers are with you and Val, and pray your recovery is complete.
Val & Dieter,
I’m not sure if you remember me but I attended New Song from 1992 to 1995. I met with Jeff Kramer a few weeks ago and he told me about the events that have turned your lives into a different direction. I’m grateful for God’s support to all of you during this time of change. You have a community around the world praying for you all and the doctors & specialists that will come into your lives to give you your new path. I hear Dieter’s voice in my head from sermons past and on tape from NS. God will heal your beautiful, amazing voice Dieter.
God bless you,
Love Zena
Today is my ONE year Wedding Anniversary. I was blessed by having Dieter marry me and my husband. My Wedding day was memorable and Dieter Zander played a huge role in making it special. You are in Paul, Sophia and my thoughts.
Great hear that the surgery went well and Dieter is progressing and a good step was taken to insure (as well as it can be) that no further strokes will occur. What journey. Charlie and I continue to pray. Love, Diane

I’m grateful God continues to bless you with recovery from the stroke. I am sad to hear that the church you have devoted the last 8 years to is saying good-bye. I’d like to help out as God has been truly blessing me. Please let me know how I can help you directly. Your entire family continues to be in my prayers. God will provide, He always does.
Hi Dieter-
Today God brought you to mind, and I knew I had to find out how you are doing. Thanks for keeping us posted. I pray for you and Val and look forward to connecting one day soon-John and Heather, Portland
Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us who love you and pray for your continued recovery. Val and the boys also come to my prayers too. May you all share a wonderful Christmas together.
Todd and I have been praying for you since the news of your situation. Of course, we feel so close to you as you married us, we shared ministry and meals together (not to mention a few cigars too!)
I think the last time we saw you was in 2000. We trust that you are getting stronger. According to your website, it sounds like things are slow but positive. That’s GREAT!!
Please wish Val and the boys a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from us and let them know they are in our prayers too. You have a wonderful family!!
Hi Dieter,
We continue to pray for you as the Lord lays you on our minds. We have such great memories of our times together in Lake Oswego and fondly cherish the sweet and lasting impact you have made to our lives. Great to hear of your progress and look forward to hopefully some time in the near future when we can affirm you in person.
We now live in Maplewood, MN (north St. Paul) and enjoy our ministry (in a retirement mode) at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Shalom dear brother, Tom & Lois Kramaer

Just a word from friends at NPCC in Nassau. We continually intercede on your behalf. We remember with great love the times of teaching and worship together with you. The Holy Spirit continues to bring you before us and we pray for your restoration, healing, and deliverance.
Dieter, may you receive from the Lord a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit. I pray in Jesus’ name that He will till your rich silence, this fulsome struggle, until He births an even deeper level of oneness with Him. I pray this with great respect for your situation. I pray that you will feel the love of The Father most personally. I pray that you will receive His energizing power, like the resurrection power that raised Christ from the dead. May He quicken your mortal body, Brother. May He raise you up to lead the procession again in worship and awe. May you be filled with the knowledge of Christ and may, in your sufferings, you become united with Him and released into a fuller anointing to speak of His love, His power, His healing.
I remember once, while you and your family were worshipping with us, how the Lord revealed Himself in worship as the Lamb, slain, yet risen. I truly pray that the full effects of that atonement may be fleshed out in your life.
I cannot say how often the Lord brings you to mind in prayer and this note comes with so much love, from our part of the body, to your home and family. We love you, we miss you, we long to see you again, and most of all–we long for your restoration.
Val and Dieter and family:
We never know if you get these – we aren’t computer geeks…..Please know we are praying for you – that our Lord will meet your needs; give you strength; peace of mind; and place His healing touch on you Dieter. We love you all – haven’t ever met the boys -can you imagine? in His amazing grace, Ken and Bobbi
Psalm 23; 119.
I have been thinking of you today so thought I would look you up and found out about what has happened in your life over the last couple of years. You were one of the most encouraging people in my life when I needed more encouragement than I like to remember. The Lord has worked miracles in my life as I’m sure He is doing in yours. I am so glad I had the pleasure of knowing you and learning from you Deiter. I hope that you are continuing to feel better and better.
We will be praying here in Paris, France for Dieter’s full recovery and for the whole Zander family. Blessings in Christ!
Love,
Mary Todd
The Fulton Family is praying for you. We’re praying that each of you are experiencing the Lord in powerful and intimate ways. We’re praying that Lord is knitting Dieter, His creation, back to a healthy state. We wish we could be with you in person.
Dieter,
I am praying for you and your family. I so sorry this is happening to you.
I have always looked up to you since I’ve known you and think your family ROCKS!
I hope the very best for you. I know God is definitely taking care of you every step of the way.
In Christ,
Dan Martinez
Our prayers will continue to be with you. Our Father, who has lead you for years, will not stop watching and caring for all of you, nor will all of us who have been immensely blessed through your ministries, stop interceding for you.
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!” Psalm 150:6
May Jesus continue to bless and save many through you and through those your life touches. Even now, you continue to lead us to worship.
I’m praying along with many others for Jesus to hold you all in His hand. GOD speed.

Val,
We are two of many people believing for the swelling to subside and health to be restored. We also are praying for peace for all your family. We care about you all!

The Farrell Family has been praying and will continue praying for you. We love you all very much.
Thank you…
-Derek
Zander family-Georgene and I, like everyone I suspect, were shocked to hear that this had happened to Dieter who I always considered such a healthy specimen…anyway, know that we are “praying without ceasing” for my buddy, and you all, and the entire medical team.
Zander Family,
Dieter is a bright light and we are faithly praying for his recovery.
Please know that all of you are in our thoughts and prayers.
The Morris Family
Because He Lives,
Louisa Haughton Ditto
Dear Val and Boys~
We will continue to hold you all in our thoughts and prayers.
Love and Peace be with you deeply!

Love,
Mary Todd
My dear Val,
I am touched by you update–Dieter opening his eyes, the questions that arise in you. Words fail me….
In my heart I hold you with such tenderness. The words of prayer fall away and there is nothing there but the love of our dear Lord. For you.
Please call on me if I can help in any way. And I’m here if you just want/need to talk.
Love, as always,
Jean
All of your friends from Black Mountain Motorcycle Club in Arizona are keeping all of you in their prays.
Blessings,
Mary and Chris Christner
Dear Val and boys,
We pray many times during each day for Dieter’s recovery and for your strength and knowledge of God’s love for all of you.
I’ve been in contact with Judy and Swede a couple of times. They love all of you so very much. Your dad spoke of how powerful Dieter’s worship leading was in Hungary. I admire you and your love and service for our Lord.
In His Felloship, Judy Dreyfuss Franklin
Zanders,
Kim and I have been checking this blog religiously to hear the updates on Dieter.
We love you dearly. Kaarin Puhala
Gary Kibble
Much Love, Jill (Ewing) Hanggi
My small group in Kansas City has added Deiter to our daily prayer list. I still have some messages of his recorded from Axis, and he has had such a profound impact on my life!
Val & Sons:
I’m so happy to hear that Dieter is no longer sedated and will be moving to a different hospital soon. This is an answer to many prayers. I will continue to pray for you and the doctors as you make decisions about what is best for Dieter.
In Him,
Scott
Zander Family,
I praise God for the good news that Dieter is awake and recognizes all your beautiful faces!
Strength in Christ,
Andrea Nyberg
Hi.
I just wanted you to know that I am thinking about you as you are going through this time of difficulty. I love you all lots and am hopeful that healing and goodness emerge with expedience.
Much peace to you,
Mary Nan Ollis
Dear Zanders,
I was so glad to hear good news. Just as one of your friends wrote. Know you are covered in prayer.
love to you in Jesus.
Dear Zander family,
my high school friend, Renee, sent me an email about Dieter.
God bless you,
Annette
Dear Val,
You, Dieter and the family are in our prayers. We love you all very much.
Love,
Eva
Hi Val
We have never met, but I grew up with Dieter. My parents are part of the German gang. My mom is Johanna Orr. My heart goes out to you and your family. Please give Dieter a big hug and tell him to be strong. This web site is great to see the progress being made. I’m not there physically to help out, but I will have positive thoughts and hope for a speedy recovery. Hang in there!
We are praying for the complete restoration of Dieter’s personality and memories!
Sincerely,
Paula Casey
Val, Dieter and boys,
My heart sings with joy to hear that Dieter is starting the process of recovery. Congratulations, Dieter, on walking! You are such a fighter. Please know that you and your family are in my daily thoughts and prayers, and I won’t I stop praying until Dieter is fully healed.
Love,
Mary Todd
Is Dieter speaking? Does he understand what’s going on?
Dieter and Val,
Much love and prayers are sent from San Dimas. Thanks to the people in the Bay area for this website that keeps us in the loop.
Please know we are praying for the whole family, and for the journey that lies ahead.
In Christ,
Sue Ten Eyck

Dearest Val and family
-Love, Tracy

Tad Martin
Dieter & Val,
Martin & I send much love and prayer. I can’t wait to tell you in person how much we miss you and just how much you have changed our lives. It’s crazy that we don’t say these things on a more regular basis…I guess we have learned something here. God bless you, Val and your boys.
Sheila & Martin

Dear Dieter, Val and family,
Thank you for your strength, character, and perseverance, Thanks, too, for allowing us to share your journey with you via the Internet updates.
Val,
I have heard the cry of your heart and am lifting it up to our Heavenly Father. Please know that you, Dieter, and the boys are never far from my thoughts and prayers. May He fill you with supernatural wisdom, courage, and strength.
Love,
Mary
Dear Val,
It was thru Newsong Church, which Dieter and yourself founded and led for I believe 12 years, that we came to know the value of praying with “contagious authentic christians” by becoming part of a Care Group within the Church.
Dear Friends,
You are in our prayers many times each day.
Love Marilyn and Doug Faber
Hi Val, We are friends of Judy and Swede. We are in prayer for each of you and for Dieter’s stability and physical strength at this time. We pray for God’s healing touch and that you and the family will experience God’s strong presence in your midst. Jim and Sonya Sprout
Val,
Val,
It is hard to believe that you take time every day to write something on the website. Thank you for this gift for all of us who are praying.
We are praying for strength for all of you as you walk down this road of physical and emotional suffering together. Consider us part of your fmaily of prayer.
Love, Matt and Leslie (Martin)
We are joining our prayers to yours in this battle and feel blessed to be able to do so. You are an incredible couple and have blessed our family–we are grateful. Tom & Crystal Hagen, Sequim, WA (formally Alaska).

Happy Birthday, Dieter!
You continue to be in my prayers, as well as those of my family, numerous people here at The Crossing Christian Church in Las Vegas, and others who know of the ways that God has used you to impact my life. May you and your family find strength, courage and hope as you rely on Him daily for all your needs.
Happy Birthday, Dieter!!!
You have been one of my favorite pastors. I love you tons.
Happy Birthday, Dieter!
One of many more to come.
We are praying for you constantly.
Rich
Nancy Clark
Dear Val,
You are so articulate. Your heart rending messages are informative and are so helpful in guiding my prayer for you all.
You are loved by so many and that includes me.
Dorothy
Amen”
In His love,
Paula Casey

Dear Val and Diedre,
Stuart and I have been praying for you and following your progress.
Dieter and Val,
We kneel with you before God, asking for his divine and complete healing! None of us have the right answers, but we do know that God is in complete control. You have blessed and inspired so many lives..and will continue to do so, as Dieter will be completely healed,in the holy name of Jesus, Amen. Our prayers are with you, Your friends in cold Sweden
Dear Val and Dieter,
As I read your last three posting, I found myself weeping.
Love, as always,
Jean
Dear Dieter and Val,
I am encouraged by the news that Dieter will be moving back home. As this transition takes place I will continue to pray for strength, patience, and hope for your family. Dieter, I am so grateful for your influence on my life. I pray that God would protect and bless your family.
Kris
Dear Val,
Thanks for taking your precious time to guide our prayers for you, Dieter and the boys, and family.

Hello,
My husband and I are neighbors & friends of the Zanders.

Dear Val,
I was on CCC staff under your wonderful parents many years ago.
Dieter and Val,
Linda and I have been praying for you ever since receiving Swede and Judy’s March 1 letter written from Novato.

Dieter & Val,
It was so good to see you last night!
Peace,
–mark

It was so good to hear Val’s voice the other day on the phone. I just wanted to let you know that we love you- and we are praying for you. I don’t know the answers and I don’t know why? All I know is that He cares for us and loves us enough that He sent His own Son to die for us-so we can be with Him someday in Heaven! That’s an awesome God we serve!
Keep the Faith! Neil and family
You’re all in my prayers!
Dear Val & Dieter,
It’s been a very long time since I have spoken to either of you, the time has flown and my life moved on as I picked up the pieces… as always, God has been extremely faithful and good to me.
Lifting you in prayer, my dear sister.
With love,
Stacy
Dieter and Val–
Hi!
Wishing you Christ’s best,
Don
Dear Dieter and Val,
We pray God lay His hand on your human instrument (and your body for that matter) just as He did when He first formed you.
Steve and Cathy
Hey Dieter,
It was great to get your message on the website and to hear that you are making progress in therapy. I pray that there will be a day soon when those words will simply roll off your tongue.
Thinking of you and praying for you.
Sandy Davis
Dieter & Val–
Fondly, J&M
Dear Val and Dieter and Family,
Bill and I send our love. We pray Dieter would continue to improve and that the Spirit of God would give wisdom in every decision you make. We are holding you up before the throne of grace.
In His love, Beverly and Bill Counts
Dearest Dieter and Val and boys
Although we haven’t seen you guys for years – in fact, haven’t seen your 3 guys – we have prayed for your whole family for years – your mom and dad can attest to that. Just know we love you and have many praying for you too. Always get caught up w/your family from your folks. We place your family at the feet of our Lord – God is good – God is ALWAYS good. Psalm 23 still remains a favorite. in His amazing grace, Ken/Bobbi
Dieter,
I haven’t read many of the posts on this blog before.
God bless and keep running.
-Paul
Dieter and family,
I just heard about what has happened through Neil Lomax. You all are in my prayers. Many found memories of you Dieter. (Marcia Badgley)
Hi Val and Dieter,
I wanted to let you know that it has been VERY good seeing both at church the past few Sundays.
Steve and Susan

Love,
Peggy Irvine
Hello Dieter ad Val
Great hear that the surgery went well and Dieter is progressing and a good step was taken to insure (as well as it can be) that no further strokes will occur. What journey. Charlie and I continue to pray. Love, Diane

I’d like to help out as God has been truly blessing me. Please let me know how I can help you directly. Your entire family continues to be in my prayers. God will provide, He always does.

Hey Dieter and Val –
Todd and I have been praying for you since the news of your situation. Of course, we feel so close to you as you married us, we shared ministry and meals together (not to mention a few cigars too!)
I think the last time we saw you was in 2000. We trust that you are getting stronger. According to your website, it sounds like things are slow but positive. That’s GREAT!!
Please wish Val and the boys a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from us and let them know they are in our prayers too. You have a wonderful family!!
Love, Annie and Todd (Samantha and Luke too)

Dear Dieter, Val and Family,
Just a word from friends at NPCC in Nassau.
Much love,
Joy

I have been thinking of you today so thought I would look you up and found out about what has happened in your life over the last couple of years. You were one of the most encouraging people in my life when I needed more encouragement than I like to remember. The Lord has worked miracles in my life as I’m sure He is doing in yours. I am so glad I had the pleasure of knowing you and learning from you Deiter. I hope that you are continuing to feel better and better.
